The first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race from Alicante to Cape Town is one full of drama. Team Abu Dhabi has its leading position in the rankings crab buffet after winning the race in the Mediterranean port opgeveven with a broken mast.
With the mast is the ambition of skipper Ian Walker snapped. The team won the Abu Dhabi in-port race in Alicante Spaande seaside town, and went into the leadership position through the Strait of Gibraltar on the way to South Africa Ande Cape Town. Walker and his crew arrived - just like the other five teams - in bad weather end, after the mast collapsed.
The other teams - Groupama, Camper, Telefonica, Puma and Sanya - are on their way to break the 6,500 nautical miles southward. After Cape Town goes the Volvo Ocean Race fleet to include Abu Dhabi and Miami, to lakes in the Irish finish city of Galway.
